Service

Westaway Sails enjoys an enviable reputation for high quality repairs, alterations and maintenance to all types of sails so whatever your requirements for service and valet, the loft team has the knowledge and expertise to provide advice and help.

One of the first jobs is to wash the sails in order to remove salt and dirt as salt attracts moisture which encourages the growth of mildew. Salt crystals also damage stitching on seams and edgings.

If your sails do have mildew on them, it should be treated at the earliest opportunity otherwise it will spread, but care should be taken on choosing the mildew remover as many will cause more damage to the sails. Westaway Sails uses a fungicide which will not harm your sails.

Laminate racing sails can be washed flat to help eliminate shrinkage and prolong the racing condition of your sails.

After the sails have been washed, they are given a thorough inspection by hand and any repairs marked and carried out, so by using our service you can be assured your sails will be ready for you to enjoy the start of the new season.

Drop off points are available throughout the main boating areas of Devon (see map) – all you have to do is let us know when you're dropping off your sails and when you want them back and we'll do the rest.

Canvas and covers can also be re-proofed – especially useful for any leaking sprayhoods!
